The Chandrabhagga range from the Kunzum-la pass
The Indian Himalayas are indeed a spectacle, each day has been filled with impossibly beautiful landscapes that always seemed to get better. We covered just over 2500km crossing 12 passes, 4 of which were over 5000m.
In their enormity they dwarfed me into insignificance, in their vastness they encouraged me to be more curious. In their beauty they dazzle, amaze and astonish. From the mossy green forested slopes of Shimla and the Rohtang pass where springs and waterfalls cascade down on every bend in the road; To the starkness of desert-like Spiti where ancient river plains are incised into spectacular sculptures; To the boulder strewn valley of the Chandra river which flows with great gust while delicate summer flowers cover the slopes. To the rumpled and crumpled, tipped and metamorphosed bands of sedimantary rocks of Ladkah and Zanskar, crammed with fossils . Rocks of crimson, green, grey, burnt orange, blinding white. The vast open wind swept plains bound by soft curved mountains. The glacier crammed valleys of the Suru and Kargyak in Zanskar where the peaks of Nun and Kun stab the sky.
These are the himalayas rising to 8000m connected by 4000-5000m passes that we humbly crossed on our 2-wheeled horses. Prayer flags rightly adorn these kings and queens of the earth’s landscape.

Back to evergreen forests and high humidity, we headed for Dharamsala for the last days, home of the Dalai Lama.
