Back to Ladakh: Heading for the Himalayas Part 2

In a couple of days we will be heading off once more the alluring Himalayas of North India. This time if will be a little different. We will be guiding two groups of 8 cyclists along a section of the 2500km we covered last year. That section is none other than the Manali-Leh Highway, a roughly 700km stretch of chocolate slab road that crosses 3 passes over 5000m and another 2 passes just under. Not surprisingly it is commonly referred to as the ‘Highest Motorable Road in the World’ . Of course this trip will be different, perhaps more challenging in some ways , but the good thing that everyone going enjoys cycling – that counts alot, hey! And we will have 2 jeep supported vehicles this time and small crew setting up camp when we need one.  (If you are interested in similar trips in 2011 email me!)

Please remember

Fabulous roads and dramatic scenary all the way

Camping freestyle at Tso Kar a high altitude lake en route

The Baralacha-la pass is just under 5000m, a very satisfying summit.

I always find time to make friends en route

Ladkhi villages

Lunar landscapes at 4000m near Pang

Finishing along the mighty pea-green Indus river in the Kingdom of Ladakh

That one dog must have been so disappointed when he woke up; “Are you kidding me! Why didn’t you wake me up!”, and the other dog says, “I was too stunned. She was so nice dude!”.

    Be real, be sober.

Great pictures – hoping for some more before the end of the trip.

Can’t stop wondering how you’re all getting along?
We’re missing you here at home and hope that you’re having the grandest time out there! Missing the doglets too! Fondest love from a very dry and frosty Howick.

  4. Hoping you’re nowhere near the floods and that all’s going well with you and your intrepid group.
    Take care.
